Field note

Auto-advance that ticks a round you did not throw

8 June 2026

Runner on a trail in morning light

Four of seven boxers at peak hour showed us a ticked round they had not sparred. The player had moved to the next clip. The complete button had gone grey because the timestamp said the round was over. The coach’s notebook still had blank lines.

Fitness app analytics without the notebook is a story the player tells about itself. We still count the ticks. We also ask the person sweating in the doorway what they thought they had just done. If those two answers diverge, the write-up says so in one sentence, not in a heat map.

Turning auto-advance off for camp weeks was the den’s decision. Other gyms will want it on for follow-along yoga. The point is not a rule for every floor. The point is that a tick is not always a round.
