Field note

The rest-day tile that reads like a scolding

On a Tuesday in March we followed a five-day strength pack in a Johor Bahru member app. Day four was labelled Rest. The tile still showed a grey flame. Tapping it opened a paragraph that began “Don’t lose your streak.” The actual coaching note — walk, sleep, no extra sets — sat under a fold.

Members we asked at reception had not opened the fold. Two had done an extra arm session “so the flame stayed red.” Both then skipped Friday’s squat work because their elbows were noisy.

If you write rest-day copy, put the permission in the first line. Put the flame somewhere else, or let it rest too. Fitness app analytics here is not a chart of “retention.” It is a count of people who trained when the plan asked them not to, then vanished when the heavy day arrived.
